Mission Operations

The latest information on the mission operation status is available at the mission operations blog of Felix (DO3FKA), at http://dl0fha.tumblr.com and at the SatBlog of Mike Rupprecht (DK3WN), at http://www.dk3wn.info/p/

The launch and early operations phase (LEOP) was carried out in the time immediately following the launch. Due to technical difficulties this phase did not complete within days as scheduled, but took several weeks. Once the satellite was operating nominally, mission and housekeeping data was obtained from the satellite over the period of several months. As of now, a large amount of images and data has been downloaded from the satellite for evaluation on ground.

Ground Stations

The control and station keeping of the COMPASS-1 satellite is primarily carried out from the ground station at the Aachen University of Applied Sciences (FH Aachen), located at 50.7649º North, 6.07937º East. A backup ground station was set up at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) at 22.9378º North, 120.275º East. In addition, a major contribution on the mission operation is provided by private radio-amateurs.
